BSNL Broadband Services

Recently I shifted to Hyderabad. Being a software engineer, first thing I need to get done when I shift to new city is to get my internet connection.

Talked to people in Hyderabad and in my area and realized that best internet service provided in my area is by BSNL.
Happily I went to BSNL's Miyapur office to apply for internet connection and they informed me that getting connection in my area will take some time. They promised that I will get the connection in one month.
This happened at around May 2007.

I waited and waited for connection but it was all waste. I waited for 3 months and while doing that, I was calling Miyapur's BSNL officials and they kept on promising me for swift action.
Nothing ever happened and finally I went to their office around August 2007 and asked them to give me concrete date and reason for all this delay.
They informed me that the reason behind connection not given is some problem with their "switch" and they will definitely resolve the issue in 2 weeks and I should get the connection in 1 week after that.

This cycle continued for 8 more months and finally I lost my patience and applied to withdraw my application for internet.
I, unexpectedly, got my refund in no time from BSNL (which is great).

For internet, I applied for Reliance's WYMAX internet connection and got it in one week.
This is the difference between private and public companies and the way they are handling customers.
What is the use in giving best internet plans, best internet speed if you are not able to scale to demand?

This always made me wonder, what is the use for me of giving 20K+ tax every month.
If I have to wait for 12 months to get the internet connection from govt. company, why should I even pay the tax?
I do not get good roads, I always see load shedding through out the country where ever I go and now I am not even able to get internet connection in days in city like Hyderabad (one of the big IT cities in India).

I hope this blog will be read by some BSNL officials and they will try to improve the situation.
